Friends and Sponsorship
Do you value Quedgeley Church?
Whilst only a small percentage of Quedgeley residents actually attend services at St. James’ on a regular basis, many more value the church building for its historic and architectural virtues.
The Church is just about the only remaining piece of old Quedgeley still left. Many people would wish to see the building maintained in good condition for future generations, even if they do not wish to attend it regularly.
The Friends of Quedgeley Church is an organisation set up to enable people who do not attend the Church to keep the building in good condition for future generations.
What it all costs:
Last year the regular Sunday congregation gave the Church around £28,000.
- The majority of this income (£23,000) was used to pay the Quota —that is the Parish’s contribution to the central funds of the Church of England. The Church of England uses money raised this way to pay clergy stipends, maintain its housing stock and for administration costs.
- Ten percent of this income was donated to charity.
- The remainder was used up in running costs – such as insurance (nearly £1,000), heating, lighting and maintenance.
The Church needs nearly £500 per week just to remain open.
Expenditure on restoration and repairs is in addition to that set out above. It is in this area that The Friends help.
The annual membership subscription is currently £15 (minimum). This can be paid either by once-a-year subscription or by monthly standing order.
Friends receive an annual report on the condition of the Church.
